Caregiver's Checklist:
A Personal Experience

What Is Personalization?

One of the dictionary definitions for personalize is:

“make more obviously related to, or identifiable as belonging to, a particular individual.”

Personalizing a funeral service means saying and doing things that remind you of your loved one. What feels right for your loved one and your family is what personalization is all about. In Memory Of believes that

when we create personalized final memories of our loved ones, we pay tribute to their journey here on earth.

The following excerpt from Jeanne Daly McIntee’s book To Comfort & To Honor expresses the important role personalization plays in healing.

“A short impersonal service is not going to lessen the pain.
A personalized service, long or short, traditional or not, gives us a place to acknowledge the sorrow in the presence of others.
It also gives us the opportunity to see that the life of our loved one mattered.
We are not alone in our loss.
We honor the life of the one who has died and, in the telling of the story, in the readings and the music we choose, we find comfort.
The service helps us to be grounded in the present, to reflect on the past, and to find solace so that we can move forward into the future.
